The PM system

yeah I kinda like a custom PM system where the user can type up his/her message and subject... I would like that to be something of an alteration to the site.   also some of the Classic backgrounds to be brought into the modern makers...  another of my suggestions...

Private Messaging:
Ya, a lot of users have asked for private messaging. Unfortuately we can't do it until we can figure out how to keep the younger kids safe... and how to keep it from being abused. Each message would need to be moderated, or we would have to limit it to 13+ users only, and they would have to just type from a "safe word" list that didn't have things like insults or swearing in it.

Either way, its not something we can do quickly. It will be a really really big project. It is something we are working towards though

Classic Backgrounds:
Classic backgrounds won't be added to the new makers. We did talk about it, and look at doing it. But we have to keep the modern makers all "vector" (drawn in flash), so that they can be scaled up and used with some of our future plans for the site.  There will be lots more backgrounds available in the market, including some inspired by the "classic" backgrounds (so there will be snow and caves, etc...). Boo just needs to finish the code that will make it so that I can put them up for sale.

If you have a character/creature from a modern maker, your best bet is to just turn it into an asset and then bring it into the classic maker



Sorry for the long waits on this stuff, but we are working to improve things. It is all done in our spare time, so it does take a while.

About the privat messaging. You could mmake it free chat, but when if he/she put a insult, or anything bad "Even spelling wronge" it turns red and when it is sent it says "YOU ARE ****(bad comment). That could work. I think its like a filter for words.

The problem is that it can't be just a "free chat" since users might still say things that could reveal personal info about themselves.

To do something more like free chat, Boo and I have to design a word list that can't be used to reveal personal info, and that is a huge huge job. We will need to do it for when we launch the virtual world, but I doubt it will be done before then. It will take me more time that building 8 new magic makers would

oh, and i would like the words "boyfriend girlfriend" Stuff off the list if you do the idea. (incase you didn't know on pirates of the carribean i was always annoyed by boyfriend girlfriend junk) So, ya. oh, and you could make it a tight word list? if so my mom would be moreinto it. i think :p

Yeah, i now what ya mean, Em. Alot of kids virtual worlds do drop down chats like that, even Club Penguin still has the thing to type your self, but they also have the drop down chat to choose their words, i call it safe chat.

On the buildabear site (yes, i went on it, made an account and liked it.) theres something like what Bree said. I was typing "Hey everyone, lets have a sort of fashion show thing. If you want to participate come to the shopping area" Because i wanted to see everones clothes, but some of the stuff went red because it wasnt in the chat server thing. I think that this does have a list of words to use, but it doesnt show them and let you choose(unless you want to see the list, then you clicked a button) so it gives the appearance of having more freedom chat.

Ya, the thing is that all of those sites have lots and lots and lots of people building them. With just us, it is going to take us quite a while just to build the word list

Maybe everyone could help and contribute a few words and phrses? Would that help a bit? But im sure everyones not in such a rush, i would rather have new makers than a PM system

I tried that with just our drop down system, I wanted people to give me stuff to add to it. But not a single person did (or at least not anything I was actually able to put in).

I think for the new one, we will actually start with a dictionary and then start taking out words that concern us and seem like they could be used to bully or share personal info.

It will be tricky though, even though we all speak mostly english on the forum, there are a lot of words that change from place to place. Stuff like "colour". In Canada, and maybe England too, it has a U in it. In the us, it is just "color". We will have to make sure that we have as many of those kind of words covered as we can.

lol, we say it. But not nearly as often as they do in the cartoons. Plus our accents tend to be different from the cartoon characters.

Also, most of us have never even seen an igloo and the Mounties (the police that wear red and have brown hats) really only dress like that for special occasions and tourists.

Im Canadian! Sorta...my dad was only born there, but lived there for only a few months...so technically now really Canadian vut he isnt a US citizen. I have Canadian coousins or something that say Eh a few times, but not a alot...its cool when they do. 
All my friends are jealous of me though because im Canadian, because they think Canada is cool
